juneDid you know that June is the month with the longest daylight hours of the year here in our hemisphere? And how have you planned to use those looong summer days? Sitting by the pool, grilling outside with a cool drink in your hand…and WRITING.

Don’t let your writing goals slide this month–grab your calendar and let’s put some writing goals on there!

June is Audio-book month. When’s the last time you had someone read to you? It’s one of my guilty pleasures, and if you’ve ever ridden with me to an event, you’ll see three or four audio-books in my car at any given time. Our local library has literally HUNDREDS of audio-books to choose from, so stop in and grab one or two this month. It’s a great way to sneak in one more book while you’re driving around, running errands, and I find it helps me to ‘hear’ how other authors use language, dialogue, foreshadowing and other methods. Here’s our county library link for their audio lending library here.

June 4–Open SSRA PRO/PAN meeting. Come join us today at 10am at the Homosassa library and brainstorm your manuscript, or get some help with blog ideas, or just enjoy the camaraderie of other writers.doughnut

June 6–
Today is National Doughnut Day! Celebrated the first Friday of each June, this day hearkens back to WWI, where men and women served doughnuts to soldiers in WWI. What’s even sweeter? The doughnut chains, Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ Donuts are both offering FREE doughnuts that day! Check out the Wall Street Journal article on it here, and be sure to use that sugar-high to your writing advantage!

June15–Father’s Day, so don’t forget to send your Dad a card and let him know you’re thinking of him. In honor of the day, spend some time writing about various father figures in your life, or make up some for your current heroine/hero as part of their back story. This is a MEMBERS ONLY area.

June 21–Summer Solstice, which is the LONGEST day of the year!  Tune into our SSRA Yahoo loop where we’re going to have a Solstice word Sprint today for SSRA MEMBERS ONLY!!

June 24–What’s summer without a naked roll in the dewy grass?!? If you’re planning a trip to Iceland, todDew on Green Grassay is Jonsmessa, an Icelandic farm holiday where the cows could speak our language and a naked roll in the dewy grass would increase  your health and make your wishes come true! Check out the holiday here if you don’t believe me, but don’t try this at home–here in FL, we can that ‘indecent exposure.’

June 28–Round out your writing month with a “Pitch Perfect” session. Whether or not you’re attending a conference this summer, our pitch princesses, Ronnie and Judy will lead us in a workshop to help develop YOUR pitch, practice it in a friendly environment, and they will give you their conference tips for how to make the most of your time at Nationals (or any conference) this year.

Enjoy the start of summer, and keep those words rolling!

Dylan Newton was born and raised in a small town in Upstate New York where the local library was her favorite hang-out. Despite earning a degree in English Literature, Dylan spent more than a decade sidetracked by an executive position in corporate America where she swears she contracted testosterone poisoning. After leaving, she dedicated herself to more estrogen-rich passions, like motherhood, writing romance novels and her never-ending quest for the perfect date night.

Dylan married her high-school sweetheart and they are busy living out their own happily ever after in sunny Florida with their two incredible daughters and a snoring Shiz-Tsu.
